Harrow Weald Councillors Take Action to Deter Speeding Motorists

Harrow Weald had been considered a safe ward when it comes to road safety, however in recent months we have had a number of reported road traffic accidents, some of a serious nature, raising concerns amongst local residents.    Research has shown that speed is often a contributory factor in road collisions.

Your Conservative Councillors raised their concerns with the Council and the local Safer Neighbourhood Police teams regarding the issue of speeding motorists on our local roads.

As a result we participated in the Community Roadwatch scheme in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London. The scheme is designed to support wider police activity, working with local communities to make people aware of the dangers of travelling too fast on London’s roads. It gives residents the opportunity to work with local police teams, and use speed detection equipment to deter speeding on their roads. We will be monitoring our local roads on a regular basis.

Initial results were encouraging and we recorded 14 speeding offences with motorists driving well above the 30 m.p.h. speed limit. Roads monitored initially were Elms Road, Uxbridge Road and Boxtree Road. If you wish to participate in the scheme please contact us or email communityroadwatch@tfl.gov.uk.
