Conservative Councillor Elected as New Leader of Harrow Council

Susan HallCouncillor Susan Hall was elected as the new leader of Harrow Council following and extraordinary Council meeting on Monday 16th September 2013.

The change in leadership was caused by serious divisions within the Labour group, amidst allegations of unfairness and racism leading to a split, with nine members of the Labour group breaking away to form their own independent political party. This meant that Harrow Council was left in a state of disarray and with no overall majority, eventually resulting in the election of a new leader and a Conservative led minority administration.

Harrow East Conservatives would like to congratulate Cllr Hall for her achievement and wish her every success in realising Harrow Conservatives vision of a Cleaner, Safer and Fairer borough.

Out & About in Harrow Weald

Harrow East Conservatives were Out & About at College Hill Road, Kenton Lane, Kingfisher Close and Laurel Park in Harrow Weald on Saturday 6th April.  Members of the Harrow Weald Ward action team representing Bob Blackman MP, Cllr Ramji Chauhan, Cllr Tony Ferrari and Cllr Stephen Greek went about knocking on doors to listen to residents issues and concerns.

Key issues brought to our attention were:

–  At the junction of College Hill Road and The Avenue, residents expressed concerns that an overgrown tree was not being maintained by the Council and that the constant falling of dead branches was a cause for concern and a danger to passers-by. Additionally, the fencing at the corner property at the same junction, was overgrown and causing obstruction for those using the footpath.
– Residents complained of a noticeable increase in dog fouling on the pavements.
– The pavements on the odd numbered side are poorly maintained and have been patched up with tarmac while the pavements on the other side (even numbers) were renewed recently with brand new paving stones.

Where possible, the issues will be raised with the Council and updates will be provided to the residents concerned, as and when we get responses.

Conservative councillors held public meeting in Stanmore

stanmore public meeting

Councillor Marilyn Ashton addressing the meeting

Harrow Council is considering selling for development the land at Anmer Lodge and the adjacent Surface Level Car Park in Stanmore, as well as leasing Whitchurch Pavilion and Playing Fields in Belmont in a concerning manner.

Councillors from Belmont, Canons and Stanmore Park arranged a public meeting at the Stanmore library on 23 February 2012 to inform and be informed about the important and significant issues involved.

The well attended and appreciated meeting, chaired by Councillor Marilyn Ashton, provided the residents more information about the proposals and gave them an opportunity to share their views and concerns which would be followed.
